Online showcase SDG Learning Lab: local actions, global challenges
For one school year, young people from Liberia and Belgium worked on actions addressing social challenges in their own communities. Curious about what they did? During this online showcase, they share their actions and insights.
SDG Learning Lab: LEEF Global, Think Djapo connects young people from Belgium and Liberia around social challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project focuses on students in vocational education, who have fewer opportunities to engage with global citizenship. The trajectory ran for one school year and resulted in actions at school and in the wider community. The project is a collaboration between Djapo and LEEF, with support from Connect for Global Change.
The actions
Each action group used a Sustainable Development Goal as a lens to explore a social challenge in their own environment.
- In Belgium, students from KTA Brugge worked on SDG 1 (a board game about poverty and health) and SDG 16 (poems about being yourself at school).
- In Liberia, young people from the LEEF school worked on SDG 2 (meals for people living in poverty), SDG 3 (drug use and mental health), SDG 5 (a student council for girls) and SDG 6 (restoring a local water pump).

Extraordinary global citizens
Education is an essential factor in stimulating global citizenship. However, it is not always easy to reach teachers from special education. That’s why in 2024 - with the support of the province of West Flanders - we started Buitengewone wereldburgers (Extraordinary global citizens): a pilot project in which we want to stimulate teachers of special primary education (focus: autism spectrum) in West Flanders to get started with Global Citizenship Education.
Who takes care of our teachers and principals?
Teacher shortage, administrative burdens, demotivated students: teachers and school boards face a mountain of challenges. How can we take better care of the people who help our children and young people grow up? Read how the European LIFE project can provide an answer.
